Cable(d)

Since we occupied our present apartment, I resisted getting cable and endured the crappy reception sans antenna. I moved to the area because my sister was going to college while I was going to be in law school. And I ratiocinated early that if we have cable TV, I won't be able to study. Now I suddenly remember that while I was reviewing for the Bar, I "followed" Pinoy Big Brother. Gah! What if we had cable then? Would have I studied at all???

Anyhoo, one night, I was watching this local actor trying to act and I was so affected that I looked up Skycable Select on the Internet. I was encouraged by their "Cinema One, Cinema One, Cinema One!" commercial. After seeing that the Starter set had Lifestyle Network, ETC (which is actually a free channel na but the reception is so bad on our tv) and Asian Food Channel, I figured that was good enough for me to shell out P280 every month. So I emailed them Thursday, Friday a representative called me, today, we have cable! And it's been tuned in to the Asian Food Channel since. Happy happy!

I could stay in all day and just watch the Asian Food Channel! *happy sigh*

OK! After a Manic Monday

What a Manic Monday, it's the end of the month rush kasi. As soon as I entered the apartment, I kicked off my shoes, set down my bag and curled up in bed with the latest ish of OK! magazine. I love the article on Emma Watson, the feature on royals and that one on Harlow. I think I'm gonna give my future baby a name starting with H. :)

Random Buy, Eternal Happiness

This one's a random buy which is gearing up to be my favorite accessory. I try to wear it as often as I can.

[Smiley] Close to My Heart

It's actually a random buy from this tiangge in Eastwood City last May. We were waiting for my sister's friends for her birthday dinner so I naturally wandered to the tiangges. I wore it after paying for it. In my excitement, I failed to take note of the seller. Sorry. :( I think it's made of pewter, it's about an inch wide, has black beads inside, with a glass "lens". So cute! In case you haven't noticed, yes, I'm now collecting camera charms/pendants. :)

Pamper Me!

So, I didn't win in the Maybelline contest. But as soon as EIC Frances asked who wants to be pampered, I'm here jumping up and down, saying, "me, me me!"

I've always thought of giving facials a try, but I haven't had the time and the moolah. This is perfect, in light of my moratorium on spending. *giggle*

C'mon c'mon, Universe!

Blast from the Past

I looked like a college student today and I love it! I know college students nowadays dress more glamorously than my outfit, but this was my usual get-up back in college.

[Smiley] College Stude

Well, except for the Chucks part because I can't afford Chucks back then. This is my first pair of Chucks, a gift from E. Wee!

Zoom in on the Chucks care of my Nokia phone. Excuse the quality. So colorful noh? I was looking at my feet the whole time in the office. Loving the fact that it's part of the (product) Red collection. Thanks beb!

Missing Piece

Today started out gloomy: literally, the bad or bed weather (take your pick) and figuratively, I still have a hang-over from not going to the office yesterday. What cheered me up was the thought of wearing my latest Sundrench Accessories buy to the office. Sundrench is one of the Multiply sites I visit since I started shopping online. The pieces are cute and not too out there that I could wear them to the office.

[Smiley] Missing Piece

This is the Missing Piece which is currently on sale. Tinkered with the Watercolor filter in Photoshop. I love it although I'm not to keen on the awkward length. It's either that or I'm just too buttoned up haha.

I love the Smiley Series. It's the perfect venue to show off my new buys. Haha!

Holiday!

A typhoon is never a reason to smile, but I'm just thankful that today is Manila Day which means no office! Weee! I'm glad I'm inside when the rain poured:

[Smiley] Araw ng Maynila

Actually spent the whooole day inside. I tidied up my law school and Bar readings, yes, after a year! Saved a few but threw most of it out! That felt really good!

Gah, may pasok na bukas!

First Etsy Buy

I've heard there is a lot of cute knickknacks from Etsy.com but I simply steered clear of the site. For one, I didn't have a credit card. Until a couple of months ago. At first, I simply browsed and got spooked by the dollar rates. Until I saw this from Bijoullery:

[Smiley] Camera Charm

I fell in love with it immediately and was pleasantly surprised at its price tag (less than 10 dollars). I tried to resist the impulse to buy but I kept coming back to its page, with the line "1 in stock" seemingly mocking me. So I took a deep breath and clicked clicked clicked.

When the charm arrived, I admit I was surprised at its small size. I read the description but did not bother looking up the size with a ruler. Haha. However, its size makes it perfect for the Monday-Thursday dress code. The necklace is an old chain I have lying around. The charm is made of sterling silver and enamel. I wore it to the office for the first time today and it simply is adorable! :)

Comfort Food

I'm not feeling well today. I felt like I was floating and just going through the motions. There were several times that I caught myself snapping back to the present and it seemed like I was somewhere else. Eeek. Which is kinda scary considering that I passed five drafts today. Double eeek. As soon as my office mate dropped me off my street, I headed straight to Goldilocks - conveniently forgetting that beb might want to have dinner with me later. Triple eeek.

[Smiley] All-Time Comfort Food

Palabok has always been one of my comfort food(s)(?) Gah. Not feeling well talaga. Feeble smile for today.

Little Miss Me Me Me!

I just realized that my smiley stuffs involves fashion - shirts, in particular. Gah! I hereby resolve that I should not be left on my own while in a mall, or people should not ask me to meet me in the mall and that I should not browse through Multiply sites again!

But before the moratorium, can I just say I love Perfect White Shirt? They have shirts other than in white, the designs are cute and the shirt itself is soft and nubby - a word I picked in some teen paperback which seems apt. :) I already have three shirts which I bought in their Trinoma stall. Later this day, after buying groceries and coffee, I meandered again to their stall to check if they have new designs.

And I immediately zeroed in on these two shirts:

[Smiley] Little Miss Me x 2

Hangkyut! I want to wear them already though we are only allowed to wear shirts on Fridays... argh! Experimented a bit with some free Photoshop brushes and Photoshop texture chuva. :D

Make Me Up!

Looks like I'll be staying today. One of the first things which made smile today is the prospect of winning make-up loot, courtesy of Topaz Horizon. :)

She's raffling off lipsticks, eyeshadows and foundations. I hope I win. :)

And oh, Happy Father's Day everyone!

Plaid

A lot of smiley stuff today: new shoes from beb (weee!), missions accomplished, coffee and free food! But I figured I should save them for succeeding posts.

Today's outfit made me happy, which I will post in its huuuge glory:

[Smiley] Plaid

Fuma-fasyon ang lola!

My sister J bought me this shirt from Divisoria for only frikkin 200 pesos! I think this is the first time I've ever worn a plaid shirt and I think it's fantastic! Happy happy smiley smiley.!Spot my camera necklace which deserves a separate post.

Enjoy the rest of the week-end! :D

Di Ba Dude?

A lot of things made me smile/happy today: I had a bacon sandwich for breakfast, bought new shirts on sale, met up with R, and one courteous taxi driver.

But this started my morning right:

My new Teekals shirt. Php240 only exclusive of shipping! Cute, di ba dude?

Smiley Series

Still not feeling well today. I checked my temperature last night but I don't have a fever. It's the itchy throat and painful joints that I'm worried about. Plus this slight annoying headache. It's like the sickness is just brewing inside me, biding its time to come out. I've been popping Vitamin C tablets and Biogesic to stop it.

Lethargic all morning, when, on the way to our office's rest room (how graphic noh?), I had an epiphany. I will take a picture of anything that made me smile or happy that day and post it to Flickr and my blog. And I will call it, my Smiley Series. Because happiness is a choice. Mind over matter. It's like my aborted Project 365 but with more meaning... and feeling, I guess.

Ang cheesy!!!

[Smiley] Staying Alive

And my first picture for this series is of my "Orchid." I received it as a wedding favor four months ago. Although it has not yet flowered since, I am happy that it has managed to stay alive this long. There have been several long week-ends that I left it water-less. I was gone for a week last Holy Week. It has shed many of its leaves but two new bulbs are blossoming like crazy, right here in our dusty terrace overlooking smoky Dapitan.

And that made me smile today. :)

Point-and-Shoot

Bangus, originally uploaded by TwistedHalo.

I haven't been updating my Flickr account much. With the lack of updates comes the lack of comments and the lack of interest in my groups.

So messages like this come as a pleasant surprise:

Gladys,

Thank you for such a treat! I truly enjoyed your photos. The food made me hungry, the scenes made me home sick. You have great talent woman... Absolutely beautiful photos. I'm a fan.

Keep up the great work. I hope you don't mind I added you as a friend. So I can see future postings. I can look at your photos over and over again.

I love the detail you added on the Bangus festival. We have fish ponds in Binmaley, When I was in high school, I used to help my uncle's raise those fish yet I did not know that much detail. looking at your photos I can smell that Engkalot yummmmmy!

Thanks Cat! I also noticed that pictures taken with my point-and-shoot generate more attention. I haven't mastered KatHa kasi. I miss my PowerShot.

Midterms

Hell Week, originally uploaded by TwistedHalo.

I was aimlessly browsing through my Flickr photostream just for kicks when I saw this picture. And I felt like uploading it to my blog - again, just for kicks. I think it's funny that the book was open to that section, considering where I am right now. I took this picture while studying for midterms, captioned "Hell Week" because I had the flu the same week.

Yet, I find myself yearning for that kind of "hell." For today, I feel sick-ish, my head feels heavy. I've been bombarding myself with vitamin C capsules and water. And there's no pack of Keebler in sight.

Walang Nagbago

Walang Nagbago, originally uploaded by TwistedHalo.

At ngayon may edad ka na
At lunod sa problema
Nangangarap na ibalik
Ang kahapon hindi mo malaman
Kung bakit kailangang
Magbago ang lahat
Magbago ang lahat sa buhay mo

Umaaraw, umuulan
Noon pa ma'y sadyang ganyan
At kung ngayon lahat ng panaginip mo'y
Biglang naglaho
Pare-pareho lamang tayo
Isipin mong walang nagbago

Kung ano tayo noon
Ay ganon pa rin ngayon
Umiikot ang mundo
At hindi humihinto
Ngunit ang kalagayan mo
Ay hindi nagbabago
