Super Saturday

I envy how my blog buddies (see "Angels" in sidebar) can blog about their day-to-day lives. See, I'm a routine machine, a creature of habit, that my day-to-day existence can be summed up in one sentence: wake up, work, go home, Facebook or tv, (now, work a bit if possible), sleep. Occasionally, I get called to come out and play, but those occasions are far and between. I like the routine because it works for me, but I know blogging about my day could bore people to tears. Heck, I even get bored to tears sometimes.

However, since yesterday was a hectic day, I decided to give "blogging about my day" a go. Here goes...

Beb and I had an early appointment (9AM on a Saturday!) so we made plans to have breakfast on the way. We ate at Pancake House, I ordered the Bacon and Cheese Medley while beb had the Continental Breakfast. I heart bacon, whenever I spot bacon in the menu, I order it. And hey, this is breakfast!

After our meeting, we hied off to Trinoma to watch 500 Days of Summer. We failed to make it to the 12noon showing (bought our tickets at 12noon hehe) so we roamed around to kill time. I decided I'd buy some books. On the way to the bookstore, beb spied a car show of some sort so I left him there. I scoured the bookshelves for interesting reads, picked Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, then Lauren Weisberger's Chasing Harry Winston for balance, if Outliers turns out to be a serious read. :)

Since we weren't hungry yet, we decided to try the "test drive" that Nissan was offering in the parking lot. Beb test drove the Grand Livina and made me dizzy with the crazy turns to, uhm, check the brakes or whatever. Haha! It seems like a nice car, father dear is planning to buy one because five grown-up kids no longer fit in our Sentra. Every Sunday, two kids have to take the tricycle to church! :))

We were still a bit full from our breakfast, so we decided to have a "light" lunch. I wanted sashimi, and ended up in Oki Oki. However, five pieces for P235 felt like a rip-off, especially since it cost less to have this plateful of sashimi in GenSan. I suddenly missed GenSan.

Off to the movie. FaceBook friends have been raving about it. The ending made me sad though. Zooey Deschanel is a goddess. You could literally drown in her eyes. I love her clothes too, I wish I could get away dressing quirkily like her. Oh well.

After the movie, beb had to meet someone. So I said, ok, I'm off to Landmark! Gave my credit card some exercise (not too much though!) However, beb's client was running really late and we ended up trying the frozen yogurt of Red Mango. We thought the fro-yo was okay, but we still couldn't understand the long lines, hehe.

My long hair has been bugging me so I announced I wanted a haircut and I wanted to try Tony and Jackey in SM Annex. The thought of walking to SM Annex from Trinoma made us weary immediately so we actually took the car to SM. Weee!

I've read about Tony and Jackey in magazines, supposedly they do really good digital perms. They became more famous after Channel 2's My Girl (starring Kim Chiu) tapped them to cut and style the stars' hair to have that authentic Korean touch. The stylists are all Korean. They're not fluent in English so you're supposed to bring a picture of your desired cut. For further instructions, the stylist calls upon one of the Filipino staff.

Anyhoo, clearly I wasn't there for a digital perm what with my natural crazy curly hair. While the shampoo girl was drying my hair, my stylist who was cutting someone's hair beside me, asked her to ask me if my curls are natural. I said yes and wondered why. The shampoo girl shrugged, "Nachachallenge ata sa buhok nyo." I got scared there for a moment, I felt like one of the girls in America's Next Top Model who couldn't stop crying during their make-overs. But I figured, it's just hair, I'll tie it up if I hate it.

Finally, the stylist approached my chair. I pointed at the desired cut, shoulder-length. He looked at it for a while and started cutting. My curls kept getting tangled while he tugged at it. I thought that was funny. He asked if I wanted side bangs, I said "Is it okay?" Then he shook his head and said, "No, your hair is..." and made a curly motion with his fingers. He asked for my name and age. Then he said, "Your face is maganda, your hair panget." I laughed, I wasn't offended because I know my hair has been challenging hairstylists ever since. When he was done, he told me to "half-dry, put mousse, then ..." and made that curly fingers motion again. I love him already. Then he made his way to the water dispenser and knocked back a cup of water. Hahaha! Here's a tiny pic so you could see how crazy curly my hair really is:

The only downer was that I lost an earring which I tucked into my pockets just so I wouldn't lose them while my hair was getting shampooed. It's a dangling pearl earring from Boracay, but well. :(

So... how was it? :)

* edit: I found my other earring! Weee!

More Books Please!

[Smiley] Want.More.Books

I've started reading for fun again. YAY! Because you know, I read for a living. (tons and tons of cases!) When I was younger, I always trumpeted that I'm a true-blue bookworm. But then law school rolled in and took all the fun out of reading for me. Whenever I picked a "fun" book, I had this nasty urge to get a dermatograph and highlight! Eh I'm not the type who highlights my "fun" books. Anyhoo, after the Bar, I tried leisurely reading again and actually endeavored to go through the 1001 Book List. That time, I read Memoirs of a Geisha and Love in the Time of Cholera but my reading felt mechanical and rushed, like I was reading a case to be digested. (ha!)

Then I belatedly discovered the Confessions of a Shopaholic series and I got hooked again! I bought all the books in the series as well Kinsella's other books save for a couple I think. I would even sneakily read a few pages in the office. Chick lit rules!

Recently, I finished Anonymous Lawyer and Spot of Bother. I enjoyed the Anonymous Lawyer novel so much that I visited the blog where it all started and started going through the archives. (circa 2004!) Though I wish he would update the archive thingie so the "Older Posts" link would appear. Anonymous Lawyer is a hiring partner and his anecdotes remind me why I don't work in a law firm, nor have any immediate plans of working in one... unless I happen to own it! Heehee. His stories may appear exaggerated and outrageous but I have a feeling they're not too far from the truth!

After that "light" read, I went in for Spot of Bother. It bothered me (pun intended) because I think I'm gonna end up like the father. Sigh sigh sigh. But it's a good book and Mark Haddon really messes up with your mind! (He wrote The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time)

Now I've got nothing to read except this grammar text book for high school seniors that I picked up because I think my knowledge of grammar rules is getting rusty. (Like I know the grammar is correct but I can't explain why.) I'm on a roll! I want more books!

Fidgety on the Roof

It is no secret that I am a scaredy-cat. I don't watch horror movies, not even the "mere" suspense ones. I used to lock myself up in my room and cover my ears whenever my siblings watched the Halloween Special of Magandang Gabi, Bayan. That said, Halloween is my least favorite "holiday." I can't ride a taxi cab alone, well, there was this one time I had to, but my hand was on the door handle the entire time.

Among my many many fears is acrophobia, the fear of heights. My feet tingles whenever I climb steep and high ladders. I especially detest climbing the MMDA footbridges not because they're pink but because I could see through them. That said, I have never crossed a hanging bridge.

Recently, my two youngest sisters have taken to traipsing around the roof of our first floor. This started with Pepeng. They were even boasting, "Look, no hands!" I wanted to try it. But it took me several attempts climbing over and going back down the terrace. That said, I had to endure jeers from my younger siblings. When I finally finally left the terrace, I clung to the walls of the house like Spiderman. They said I should next scale the water tank. I'm drawing the line.
